DA: Father, son die following crash that sent car into Nipmuc Pond in Mendon

The Worcester County District Attorney’s office has identified the victims of a two-car crash in Mendon as a father and son.

“Family notifications are ongoing outside of the country, so we are still not releasing their identifications at this time,” a spokesperson for the office said.

The deadly crash happened around 10:30 p.m. Friday night on Rt. 16.

Emergency crews pulled a vehicle submerged underwater, with two occupants inside, following a crash with a tractor-trailer car carrier.

The occupants inside that vehicle were pronounced dead on the scene.

Boston 25 News spoke with Howley’s Towing and Recovery Transportation Manager who said he was called to the scene at 11 p.m.

“Last night around 11 pm emergency services contacted us, vehicle in the water, occupants in it. They first requested stabilization of the vehicle so they could do their thing, and we removed the vehicle out of the lake for them,” said Super Dustin Howley.

The DA’s office said they are not releasing the victim’s identities pending next of kin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No further information has been released at this time.
