‘A light to every room’: Family identifies 18-year-old victim of Everett death investigation

EVERETT, Mass. — Authorities are investigating after they say the body of a young woman was found in the backyard of a home in Everett on Tuesday afternoon.

A resident of Springvale Avenue reported to police that she found the 18-year-old woman’s body around 2 p.m., according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The family identified the victim as Kya Donovan.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the woman had no signs of obvious injuries, but police labeled her death suspicious due to the circumstances around the location of her body, the DA’s office noted.

Family described Kya as “super outgoing, a light to every room,” and said in a GoFundMe post she was an aspiring nurse.

News of the grim discovery has left neighborhood residents rattled.

“This is not normal here. This is a quiet place, and you know if there is no problem,” one resident said.

No arrests have been made at this time.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the family with funeral costs for Kya. To donate, click the link here.

State police detectives assigned to the DA’s office are assisting Everett police with the investigation.
