Cyclosporiasis cases continue to rise in New Hampshire

NEW HAMPSHIRE — The number of cyclosporiasis cases in New Hampshire continues to increase, with state health officials reporting 10 additional cases since last week.

According to the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, 79 people in the state have now been diagnosed with cyclosporiasis.

Health officials say the cases may be linked to recalled iceberg lettuce products from Taylor Farms de Mexico.

The company recalled iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico on July 17 as part of an ongoing multistate investigation.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as of August. 5, 2026, there were:

6,358 cases
278 hospitalizations
2 deaths
15 states reporting cases, including six newly affected states

The CDC says public health officials are investigating a multistate outbreak of Cyclospora infections linked to iceberg lettuce.

The recalled lettuce was distributed and sold in at least 27 states in various package types and was available to consumers, restaurants and retailers.

Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis.

Common symptoms include watery diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramping, bloating, nausea and fatigue. Symptoms typically begin about a week after infection, although they can appear sooner or take longer.

The CDC advises consumers not to eat recalled Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce. Anyone who has the recalled product should throw it away or return it.

People experiencing symptoms are encouraged to contact a health care provider.

The CDC notes that patients may need to specifically request testing for Cyclospora, because routine stool tests do not always screen for the parasite.
