Crane tips over at construction site in Chelsea, narrowly missing nearby buildings

CHELSEA, Mass. — A large crane tipped over at a construction site in Chelsea on Tuesday morning, narrowly missing nearby buildings.

The crane collapsed in the area of the MBTA’s Bellingham Square station, but it doesn’t appear to be impacting Silver Line service.

A neighborhood resident told Boston 25 that the crane just missed the back of his apartment building and that firefighters told his family to evacuate as a precaution.

Video from the scene showed the area roped off with yellow police tape.

Work at the site has been suspended until further notice.

There have been no reported injuries.

Crews will be back on the scene Wednesday morning to remove the crane.

Chelsea fire officials along with OSHA are investigating the incident.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
