LITTLETON, Mass. — Griffin Shoemaker is a legend in Littleton Athletics.
He was a four-year varsity starter, a four-time All-Star, and a league MVP just in Lacrosse. Not to mention his skills on both the football and hockey teams in high school.
After graduating from Little High School, Griffin went on to have a successful collegiate career at Saint Anselm’s College, being named an All-American his senior year.
But, two months ago the unthinkable happened. The 24-year-old was diagnosed with colon cancer. While undergoing treatment at Mass General Hospital, his doctors discovered a second diagnosis of liver cancer.
Griffin had a five-hour surgery to remove his colon and four bouts of chemotherapy. He has endured days where he could barely walk, but his family says he’s heading in the right direction, gaining back weight and being active again.
While Griffin has been in and out of hospitals, going through tests, surgeries, and chemotherapy, his high school lacrosse coach and about 70 of his former teammates showed up Thursday night for a fundraiser lacrosse game.
“Team G Shoe was created to offer continued support, love, and an abundance of positivity to match Griffin’s mindset during his courageous battle. Together, we are Team G Shoe,” according to their website.
If you are interested in showing support for Griten “Team G Shoe” will be hosting a golf tournament on September 29 at Northern Spy in Townsend.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
