Cause of death released for local woman who died during Arizona hike

WINTHROP, Mass. — The cause and manner of death has been released for a local woman who died during a hike on Camelback Mountain in Arizona.

Angela Tramonte, 31, originally of Saugus, died on July 30 and the primary cause of death was environmental heat exposure, according to the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner in Arizona. The manner of death was accident.

Tramonte was visiting a man she had met on Instagram. Her friends told Boston 25 earlier this month that they didn’t think it was the best idea for her to be flying across the country to spend time with a guy she had only been talking with for a few months on Instagram.

Tramonte was born and raised in Saugus and had most recently been living in Winthrop.

Investigators say Tramonte and the man she was out visiting were hiking up Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, when she decided to turn back halfway up the mountain because of the scorching heat.

The high temperature in Phoenix that day was about 104 degrees.

Authorities said the man who was hiking with Tramonte didn’t turn around with her and instead continued up the mountain.

He told investigators when he returned to the car, he couldn’t find her, so he called 911.

Emergency workers located her body nearly four hours later.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
