SEEKONK, Mass. — A man is under arrest for an alleged shooting spree in Seekonk on Thursday night.
Joshua Furtado, 24, of Seekonk, is charged with two counts of armed assault to murder, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, three counts of discharging a firearm within 500 ft. of a dwelling, and three counts of vandalizing property.
Seekonk Police say around 10:45 p.m. they got a 911 call from a driver who claimed their car was being fired upon by an unknown dark-colored SUV that had been chasing them on Newman Avenue. The bullet allegedly shattered the rear window of the victim’s car, but the victim was able to escape the shooter by driving into Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
About a half hour later, around 11:13 p.m., officers responded to another shooting incident on Border Avenue in Seekonk, according to officials. The victim reported that a car parked in front of their house had been shot up by a dark-colored SUV.
Shortly after that call was placed, police located a car matching the shooter’s description in the area of Central Avenue and Edwards Avenue. The suspect, identified as Furtado, was taken into custody. Authorities say they found a 22 caliber handgun and multiple spent shell casings in Furtado’s car.
At 11:32 p.m., Seekonk Police say they received a third call, claiming Furtado shot at an occupied car on Pine Street. The report was delayed and is believed to have happened before the first reported shooting on Newman Avenue, according to officials.
Police searched Furtado’s home and allegedly found multiple “ghost guns,” including materials and tools for the production of an AR-15 style rifle, along with an assortment of ammunition.
Furtado was arraigned in Taunton District Court on Friday. Police say his exact motives for the shootings are unknown.
Additional charges are expected to be filed.
