Lower Manhattan, NY — On the eve of an unprecedented chapter in American history, all eyes are on the New York courthouse where former President Donald Trump will be arraigned.
Trump is expected to depart from the Trump Tower on Tuesday morning and arrive at the courthouse in Lower Manhattan sometime after 11 a.m.
His entrance and exit will be accompanied by armed agents with the U.S. Secret Service for his protection.
The early frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination will be booked, fingerprinted and appear in front of a judge on more than 30 criminal charges related to business fraud.
The Manhattan district attorney’s office has been investigating Trump in connection with alleged hush money payments made leading up to the 2016 presidential election.
These include an alleged $130,000 payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels and an alleged $150,000 payment made to former Playboy model Karen McDougal.
Prosecutors are expected to argue that the payments were improper donations to the Trump campaign, which helped his candidacy during the 2016 election.
Seven years later, the alleged falsified records of those payments and Trump’s role are at the center of the indictment.
Trump’s legal team said the former president will voluntarily surrender and will look to challenge “every potential issue” once the indictment is unsealed.
As of Monday afternoon, dozens of media outlets were already lined up in hopes of securing a spot inside the courtroom for the historic moment.
Boston 25 News learned there are 130 seats in the courtroom and another 130 seats in an overflow courtroom.
It’s still unclear if cameras will be allowed inside the courtroom.
Trump’s legal team is opposing the presence of cameras during the arraignment, but it will ultimately be up the judge.
Former President Trump has already said that he’ll be heading straight to the airport after Tuesday’s arraignment.
He said he intends to get back to Mar-a-Lago where he’s scheduled an event to speak publicly.
