BOSTON — Nearly two dozen people and several house pets were displaced after a blaze at a multi-family residence in East Boston Thursday night.
According to officials, the fire broke out on the rear porches of 74 Prescott Street around 6 p.m.
Arriving companies had trouble accessing the flames in the back of the property. Firefighters ordered a 2-alarm response to gain control of the fire, eventually knocking it down.
There were no reports of any injuries, but officials say 20 people, 2 cats and a bird were displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced with hotels.
District Chief Paul Ristino estimated the damage to the building to be upwards of $200,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
