17-year-old driver charged in hit-and-run crash that left couple with life-threatening injuries

NATICK, Mass. — A 17-year-old male has been arrested and charged with running into a couple with a truck and then leaving the scene, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.

The crash left 51-year-old Kimberly Gunner and 39-year-old Andy Colbert with serious injuries on Aug. 18.

Gunner suffered extensive injuries when a fence impaled her through the chest.

While fleeing from the scene, the driver then “backed over Kimberly, crushing both of her legs, and took off at a high rate of speed,” wrote Gunner’s cousin in a GoFundMe post. Due to the severity of her injuries, she may need a prosthetic leg.

Boston 25 News spoke to an off-duty nurse who responded to the scene on the night of the crash.

“I’ve never seen anything more horrific in my life,” Karen Miscia said. “Her legs were destroyed. She was impaled with a piece of fence and I was amazed she was even talking and still alive.”

The 17-year-old, who has not been identified, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on Washington Avenue when he struck the couple and fled.

Police located the vehicle at a Holliston residence and later determined that the 17-year-old was driving with two other occupants under the age of 18 at the time.

The investigation, being conducted by multiple agencies, later revealed that the driver was allegedly under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash.

The teen will be arraigned on September 10, 2020, on charges that include leaving the scene of personal injury, leaving the scene of property damage, two counts of operating under the influence of drugs causing serious bodily injury, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and failure to stop.

The family of the victims have asked for privacy at this time.
