Police Chief James Hicks told Boston 25 News Wednesday the department believes they have found the truck involved in the incident, but are still seeking the driver. He also said investigators have a person of interest, but declined to release further information.

Officers responded to Washington Avenue for a report of a pedestrian, hit-and-run crash at 6:24 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, they found a man and woman with life-threatening injuries, police said.

“I heard a loud thump and bang. I hollered to my wife, please call 911 there was a bad accident,” said Kevin Burgess, a neighbor.

The man and woman, who police have said are a married couple, had been walking on a sidewalk near 5 Washington Ave. when they were struck by a blue pickup truck that then took off, police said.

“A young girl was lying impaled with part of a fence in her stomach, and a young man was on the ground and he had blood in his upper chest. They were just walking, up the street, yeah. Young couple in their 30′s or 40′s,” said Burgess.

Witnesses told police that a female driver, with two passengers in the pickup truck, jumped the curb and hit the pedestrians, pushing them into a fence.

“From the main drag, she’s a nurse, she came and was with the girl. I held the branches of the tree, the pickets, the thorns were hanging on top of the people lying there,” said Burgess.

Burgess says, in his 17 years of living in the area, he has never seen an accident that bad.

“It’s a cut through between Route 135 and Route 27. The cars fly up and down the street,” said Burgess.

No other information about the pickup truck, including exact color, make, model, or even a partial plate, is currently available, police said.

Both victims, who are believed to be Natick residents, were flown to trauma centers.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is urged to call Natick Police at 508-647-9500.
