15-year-old Boston boy killed in skiing accident on New Hampshire mountain

HENNIKER, N.H. — A 15-year-old Boston boy was killed in a skiing accident on a mountain in New Hampshire over the weekend.

Christopher DiPrima, a high school student within Boston’s Excel Academy Charter Schools, was involved in a fatal accident on the Duster Ski Trail at Pats Peak in Henniker shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to the ski area’s general manager.

Ski patrol transported DiPrima to the base of the mountain, where the Henniker Rescue Squad was waiting. He was then taken to Concord Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The family is still in a state of shock.

“He hit a bump. We are not really sure entirely what happened, what caused it. But, it was just a complete and sudden freak accident,” cousin Steven Gringras said. “He was always the best kid around. He was really nice, good sense of humor, he took everything really well.”

In a statement on their Facebook page, Excel Academy Charter Schools described DiPrima as a tenth-grade student who was a “kind and caring person who brought joy to everyone he met.”

“A lot of kids knew him, it’s a small community in East Boston. And so, we are making sure that anyone who wants to talk to someone has that ability today,” said Owen Stearns, CEO of Excel Academy. “Life is fragile, things can happen at any time. And our goal as a community is to try to be supportive and be together as a community when these things happen and make sure everyone has what they need to get through the day.”

An investigation into DiPrima’s accident remains ongoing.

This comes less than a week after a 67-year-old man died after skiing into a tree on Wachusett Mountain.
