BOSTON — A group of 15 military veterans is embarking on a free European vacation, all as a way to thank them for their service.
The trip, organized by the Vantage Heroes program, is an all-inclusive 7-day cruise through France with stops in Paris and the D-Day landing beaches at Normandy.
“Yeah this is amazing. When I first got the email about it I didn’t believe it was true. And this is something I’ve always wanted to do since I was a kid,” Army veteran Tommy Pittman said.
Each of the veterans get to bring someone with them as well, for Pittman that means his friend and Army veteran Keldrick Moore.
“Being stationed in Fort Bragg they talk about the beaches of Normandy I’ve read books and seen pictures but this is my opportunity to see it in real," Moore said.
The 7-day cruise will take place aboard a river boat that is described as a floating hotel.
“We are proud to honor our military veterans with this once in a lifetime opportunity to explore one of the most beautiful countries in the world,” said Patricia Lewis, Founder of the Vantage Heroes program.
Pittman is a mentor in the veterans group Home Base, veterans were invited through that organization and the Red Sox Foundation.
