Local music teacher accused of child rape

FRANKLIN, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) --A music teacher who has taught publicly and privately throughout the Bay State is accused of child rape.

To neighbors, he's the guy who lives on the corner and to music students, the teacher. But now, Charles Hocking is known to police as an accused child molester. The 66-year-old is accused of child rape after police say he inappropriately touched a 7-year-old boy while giving him piano lessons.

Hocking is charged with aggravated statutory rape of a child and open and gross lewdness. He has taught in various cities and towns across Massachusetts, including in Brockton where he was involved with Brockton Community Schools.

The allegations against Hocking reportedly stem from an incident which happened last month in Franklin, and they involved a student taking lessons at home. Reports say the victim was a 7-year-old boy who spoke with Franklin detectives earlier this week, which lead to Hocking's arrest Wednesday.

He was held on $10,000 at his arraignment Thursday and ordered to stay away from children under 18 and off school grounds anywhere. He also has to wear a GPS bracelet and undergo a mental health evaluation.
