LG recalling air conditioners due to fire hazard

BOSTON — Some LG portable air conditioners are overheating and posing a fire risk, according to the company.

LG is recalling almost 500,000 air conditioner units from all over the country after at least four people reported fires started by the machines.

The company is asking anyone with one of these units to stop using it immediately.

The model numbers include LP0711WNR, LP0813WNR and LP0814WNR. They’re all about 30 inches tall and 12 inches wide.

The fires started by the faulty air conditioners have caused almost $400,000 in property damage.

Units being recalled were sold at Home Depot and other stores nationwide from February 2011 through August 2016 for between $250 and $280.
