Joe's Crab Shack tosses tips, raises employee pay

BOSTON - Employees at Joe's Crab Shack don't worry about getting, or worse, not getting tips any more.

The seafood chain has been testing a no tipping policy at about a dozen shops over the past few months, CNBC reported.

Bartenders, servers and hosts will now be paid at a higher, fixed hourly rate, company CEO Raymond Blanchette said in a call with the business channel.

It is happening at 18 locations right now, Huffington Post reported.

Restaurant patrons will see a slight raise in prices for their meals to make up the difference in salaries.

Employees had been paid $2 an hour plus tips. They will now be paid at least $12. Staff with experience will be paid more, Huffington Post reported.
