Inspector General: MassDOT towing contracts lacked impartiality

BOSTON — A new report from the Massachusetts Inspector General found flaws and favoritism in the way the Department of Transportation contracts towing services.

The report includes more problems for a towing company FOX25 Investigates first told you about earlier this year.

The Inspector General found MassDOT workers who review bids for emergency towing services on the mass pike are inexperienced and have a lack of impartiality.

One of the companies named in the report is Perfection Towing, which is based in Watertown.

According to the Inspector General, MassDOT treated Perfection's references with “extreme favoritism.”

In June, FOX25 Investigates was first to report a state police investigation into perfection towing after two women claimed a driver asked them for sex while getting their cars towed from the Mass Pike.

State police suspended the company but have since reinstated it.
