Hundreds gather at Worcester rally against Pres. Trump's immigration order

WORCESTER, Mass. — Hundreds of people turned out on a snowy night in Worcester to protest president trump’s immigration and refugee executive order.

Mayor Joseph Petty says Worcester is a city of immigrants, and many who are undocumented are now living in fear.

“The reckless executive orders signed by the president have already had effects on our city,” he said. “We have high values in this community and we are not deporting people in this community that we have their backs.”

The mayor said residents worry about what may come next.

Italo Fini is one of them. He’s undocumented and worried about his future.

“I came from Brazil when I was 2 years old after my dad was assaulted at work,” Fini said.

Fini said he believes protests, like the one in Worcester, will make a difference.

“This is going to have a huge impact, you’ve never seen Worcester mobilize in such great numbers,” he said.

Aaiti Smith Maden agrees. Her parents came to the United States from India and she supports anyone who strives for the same ideal.

“Yeah it’s the land of opportunity. Anybody who is here is here because they have a dream,” she said.
