(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A mother who intervened in her son's on-ice hockey fight at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough claims she had seen enough when she made the decision to take to the ice.
Gina O'Toole shared her story with FOX 25's Heather Hegedus after her ice intervention went viral and sparked controversy.
O'Toole says her motherly instinct kicked in when she took to the ice earlier in June to break up a fight that, in her opinion, the referee let last too long.
Clad in a pink coat and handbag, O'Toole rushed to the ice, and managed to get the players from the Boston Raptors and the Connecticut Tribe to stop fighting. One of the players involved was her 16-year-old son.
According to O'Toole, some of the parents were shocked that she took such drastic measures while others were thankful that she prevented the fight from going any further.
O'Toole's only concern was the safety of the boys involved.
Luckily, no one was injured. O'Toole hopes that this is the last time she will ever have to get involved to such a degree.
