REVERE, Mass. — In an effort to ramp up vaccinations in hard-hit communities, the state has begun vaccination clinics at Market Baskets in five cities and is offering those vaccinated $25 gift cards.
Gov. Charlie Baker announced the initiative Wednesday, and the program begins Thursday at stores in Revere, Chelsea, Lynn, Fall River and Lawrence.
“What we’ve made great progress in vaccinating our residents, we know there’s still a lot more work to do and that’s why we’ve invested about $30 million in our vaccine initiative to address vaccine,” Baker said.
People seeking to get the free gift card and be vaccinated do not need an appointment or proof of insurance.
Nationally, the Biden administration is looking to entice Americans with a series of incentives, similar to what many have states have already done.
On Wednesday, President Biden declared June a “National Month of Action” and asked Americans who have yet to be vaccinated to do so.
His goal is to have at least one COVID vaccination in the arms of 70% of adults by the Fourth of July.
Some of the incentives that will be offered include free child care, food, beer, and tickets.
Free child care is being offered to those vaccinated by some of the nation’s largest providers including KinderCare and Learning Care Group, according to The White House.
The providers will give free “drop-in” appointments to parents who need time to get to a vaccination site or recover from any possible after-effects of the shot.
Major League Baseball teams will begin offering on-site vaccinations at games and hand out free tickets to those who are vaccinated. Also, Anheuser-Busch will give out free beer to adults over 21 on the Fourth of July, according to The White House.
A full list of incentives can be found at the bottom of this page.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 51% of adults are fully vaccinated and 62% of adults have at least one dose.
