COVID-19 vaccine rollout plan: MA vs NH

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Over the last couple of days, dozens of Massachusetts residents have reached out to Boston 25 News as they struggled to make their COVID-19 vaccination appointments. We haven’t, however, heard much from New Hampshire residents.

Boston 25 News spoke with a Massachusetts woman who spent hours trying to help her parents book an appointment.

“I was on the state’s website yesterday, and it was hours and hours of time,” said Sherrie, from Westwood.

Sherrie, who only wants to share her first name, is extremely worried about her parents, who are 77 years old.

She has been trying to schedule an appointment for each of them to be vaccinated.

“These elderly people over 75, they’re not going to be able to navigate the website properly,” said Sherrie.

“We can’t expect that everybody is going to get vaccinated right away, tomorrow, the day after, the day after,” said Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker acknowledging the frustration for people 75 and older who are trying to sign up and get vaccinated. Massachusetts is getting ready for phase 2 where, hope is, one million vaccines will be rolled out for people 75 and older, people 65+ with 2 or more comorbidities to early education k-12, transit, grocery, and restaurant workers.

“We expected the first few days would be difficult, because there are far more people eligible to get a vaccine,” said Baker.

While across the border in New Hampshire, health officials rolling out their plan, where they are one week ahead, and the frustration being felt on a somewhat smaller scale.

“So through the registration process, we know that there are common issues that have come up for the people as they’ve been working through that process,” said health officials in New Hampshire.

Vaccines are already available for people 65 and older, as well as corrections officers, staff, and populations that experience health issues.

Back in Massachusetts, pack your patience because health officials say they’re doing the best they can with the supply they have.

“I feel the state should’ve been better prepared for the rollout,” said Sherrie.

In New Hampshire, health officials were urging people to constantly check their emails, and the junk folder in case they missed their appointment confirmation.
