Coronavirus: National Guard members train with Brewster Ambulance Service

BOSTON — About a dozen Massachusetts National Guard service members trained with the Brewster Ambulance Service Tuesday - to help with their current staffing shortages.

It’s a small part of the 500 service members that have been deployed throughout the state to help the healthcare system remain fully staffed.

Guard members attended “ambulance boot camp” at the Brewster Education Center Tuesday. The town has been hit with many more patient transports, while also dealing with a staffing shortage.

“There is no such thing as too much help right now when it comes to staffing and EMS,” said Domenic Corey, the Director of Operations at Brewster Ambulance Service.

The Guard Members will work fulltime in non-clinical roles. All of the members are being paid out of the federal COVID relief fund. This activation is currently scheduled to last 90 days.
