WESTMINSTER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Remember the 71 Dachshunds that were rescued from a Westminster home earlier this year? One of them was pregnant, and gave birth to a handicapped puppy that is waiting to find her forever home.
The 71 dachshunds were all in poor condition when they were found in the home on Harrington Road. They were in filthy living quarters or left outside in the cold, according to the MSPCA, who later took custody of the dogs and put them up for adoption.
It turned out that one of the dogs was pregnant and gave birth to a litter of three just days after arriving at the MSPCA's Boston adoption center. Two of the puppies and all 71 of the dachshunds were adopted and are now in forever homes. However, one puppy from the litter, Billie, is still at the shelter. Born with a malformed spine, she has trouble using her hind legs, but those who know her say her playful personality makes you forget about her handicap.
MSPCA Boston Adoption Center Manager Alyssa Krieger said, âWhat Billie lacks in physical ability she more than makes up for with her playful and social personality.â
If you are interested in adopting Billie, contact adoption@mspca.org to set up a time to meet the adorable pup.
The couple, Edward and Shirley Aguiar of Westminster, who originally owned the 71 dachshunds were arraigned on animal cruelty charges Thursday and not guilty pleas to 14 counts of animal cruelty were entered for them. The couple was barred from owning any animals in the future, but an exception was made for their two current pets.
They are due next in court April 24.
