Green Line D branch service back to normal after tree falls on tracks

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) --MBTA shuttle buses replaced service on the Green Line in certain areas Friday due to a power issue caused by a downed tree.

Part of the Riverside branch of the MBTA's Green Line was dead Friday evening, at the start of rush hour.

Rider Julie Hammond said, "We left Boston, Fenway, at 4. It's taken us 2 hours to get home."

The MBTA released a photo, which apparently showed the cause of the power outage, a tree branch on wires. In order to keep commuters happy, shuttle buses carried passengers between the Riverside and Reservoir stations. There was a measure of confusion as train riders were diverted to the waiting line of buses.

Julie Lee, visiting from the UK, was extra confused as she'd never ridden the T before.

"Somebody told me it's really easy. You get on the T and it takes you straight into Boston," she said. "And now the bus is going to take me to somewhere I don't even know."

Still, some were able to find a silver lining.

Traveler Beth Becker said, "At least it's not cold, right. Right, it's warm. And the first bus we got on was air conditioned."

The damage was repaired and Green Line service was restored.
