Man airlifted after suffering serious burns in boat fire at Monument Beach

BOURNE, Mass. — A man was seriously injured after a boat caught fire in Bourne Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Bourne police and firefighters responded to Phinney’s Harbor at Monument Beach around 4:28 PM on Saturday for a report of a boat fire.

When first responders arrived, they found a small vessel engulfed in flames in the harbor.

Investigators determined the fire started while the boat’s owner was performing maintenance on the vessel.

Police said the owner, a 69-year-old Bourne man, suffered significant burns to his arms and legs.

He was transported by MedFlight to a trauma center with what officials described as serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
