Former mobster "Cadillac" Salemme arrested on murder charge

BOSTON — The former mob boss Frank "Cadillac" Salemme  was arrested on the charge of murder of a witness.

Salemme was the boss of the Patriarca crime family. He was sentenced to five years in prison in 2008 after he admitted to misleading investigators by falsely suggesting that a rival mob leader was involved in the disappearance of Massachusetts nightclub manager in 1993.

Recently, the body of the nightclub manager, Steven DiSarro, was found behind a Rhode Island mill.  DiSarro was the owner of the Old Channel night club in South Boston when he disappeared. Nobody knows for sure why he was killed, but it is suspected that it has to do with DiSarro's purchase of the night club. He reportedly borrowed money from the mob to re-open it as a strip club.

Now, Salemme is charged with DiSarro's death. He's facing a murder of a witness charge.

The federal government says they were tipped off about Salemme's involvement by Whitey Bulger's partner Steven Flemmi.

Since his stint in prison, Salemme has been living under then name Richard Parker in Atlanta. Prosecutors say he was trying to flee when they arrested him in Connecticut, but his lawyer denies that.

Salemme has denied any involvement in DiSarro's disappearance or death.

"For 23 years, the DiSarro family has had more questions than answers. So they are hoping now at some point thy will have their questions answered. And eventually justice for Steven,” DiSarro family lawyer Ben Urbelis said.
