Final designs for new MLK memorial on display for public

BOSTON — The five finalist proposals for a memorial honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. are on display for the public.

In 2017, the city asked artists and designers to submit their ideas for a permanent memorial on Boston Common commemorating the legacies of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King. The project will honor their impact on the world, nation, and the City of Boston where they met and fell in love as students.

The public is invited to visit the five displays at the first floor of the Boston Public Library, and the second floor of the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal building in Dudley Square until October 16, 2018.

"Each one of these five proposals does a tremendous job of honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King and their ideals, teachings and values. I look forward to hearing the public's response to each proposal, and gathering their feedback on which project best exemplifies the profound impact the Kings had on the City of Boston," said Mayor Marty Walsh.

Visitors are asked to review the proposals and leave public comment.

The final proposal is expected to be announced in November 2018.
