Person killed by MBTA Commuter Rail train at Brockton station

BROCKTON, Mass. — A person was hit by an MBTA Commuter Rail train in Brockton and later died, officials said.

According to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office, the man, who was about 75 years old, was crossing the tracks at the station when he was hit by an outbound Middleborough train.

The extent of the person's injuries was unclear early Saturday morning, but Brockton Fire officials confirmed they were called to the station for a report of a party hit by the train. The Plymouth County DA's Officer later said the man was killed in the incident.

There were 37 people onboard the train, officials said. They were moved to a Brockton Area Transit Bus.

According to the a preliminary investigation, the no crossing signals were activated when the man was hit.

According to the MBTA Alerts Twitter account, the "potential trespasser strike" was reported at 6:50 a.m.on the Middleboro Line.
