FD: 2 hospitalized as emergency crews respond to Hazmat situation

KINGSTON, Mass. — A Tier 1 Hazmat situation in Kingston has sent two people to the hospital, fire officials confirm.

Kingston firefighters responded to the scene at 182 Summer Street, a local shopping plaza, for reports of a strong odor.

Preliminary investigation shows roofers were working on repairing the roof of the plaza and using some sort of glue or solvent that had a strong odor. The odor then was possibly filtered through the building's HVAC system and into some of the businesses of the plaza, making some people sick.

The Massachusetts Association of Hazardous Materials technicians is assisting Kingston firefighters at the scene.
