BOSTON — Facebook is using artificial intelligence to try and prevent suicides.
The company’s new algorithm will scan all Facebook posts and comments on the website in an attempt to locate anything that could indicate someone needs help.
If the system spots an alarming post, it will alert Facebook employees, who will then review the content.
Facebook is also targeting live-streamed suicide videos.
Now when viewers report a post, they’re given an option to contact a help line or police department for their friend.
This move comes after Facebook saw a series of live-streamed suicides earlier this year.
