Esplanade rapist will spend up to 22 years in prison for serial attacks

BOSTON — A man who pleaded guilty to raping several women in the Boston area over the course of four years has been sentenced to up to 22 years in prison.

Alejandro Done, 49, pleaded guilty to indictments charging him with several rapes along the Esplanade and in South Boston in 2006, 2007 and 2010.

Done was arrested for an unrelated assault in Middlesex County and investigators were able to use evidence in that case to connect him to the assaults in Boston.

One victim described how Done taunted her, telling the judge, “he held my head in his hand, pulled out my debit and card see this? I’m putting it back. That’s not what I wanted.”

Prosecutors argued for a heftier sentence, saying Done is clearly a danger to society.

“I will never be fully healed,” another victim testified in court. “I will spend the rest of my life worrying. I will always worry about the stranger on the street.”

The prosecutor outlined four horrifying rapes committed by Done where he targeted women traveling alone in Boston.

Another victim told the court, “the first thought I had when he strangled me was, oh my god, this is how I’m going to die.”

“The thing that really breaks my heart is that even today the victims somehow feel they bear some sort of responsibility, when they clearly don’t,” Judge Janet Sanders said.

Done was sentenced to serve 18-22 years, with five years of supervised release. He will be in his late 60s when he gets out of prison.
