MEDWAY, Mass. — A woman is facing a slew of charges after allegedly driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and hitting a woman at full speed with her car in Rhode Island.
The victim, 38-year-old Andrea Bosworth, is a single mother of three who is now fighting for her life at a Rhode Island hospital after being thrown 90 feet in the air after a car struck her on Sunday night.
"The unthinkable has happened and right now we're trying to make sense of something that seems to make no sense at all," said Courtney Weed, Bosworth's cousin.
Bosworth, a school teacher and Iron Man triathlete, was driving home on 95 in Rhode Island on Sunday night when she had to pull into the breakdown lane to assist her passenger, who was feeling sick.
She was standing next to her car when State Police say Yiranis Liz, 30, of Providence, hit her. Liz refused to take a chemical test after police speculated she was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but is now facing a slew of charges.
