BOSTON - An iconic pub in Jamaica Plain is closing down.
The Boston Globe reports Doyle's plans to close and sell its liquor license to Davio's.
The pub has a storied history in the area, hosing many events for politicians, and appearing in several Hollywood movies and television series.
The owner says he can't afford to stay in the area.
The community is reacting to the news. One man tells Boston 25 News Jamaica Plain needs to do more to protect institutions that have been in town for decades.
"Institutions that are important to the soul of the city of Boston, to what it means to be from Boston and it's important that we actually do everything we can to save places like this," said Eytan Wurman.
It's clear when the restaurant will close but the owner says the pub could have a month or two.
My favorite beer mug is this Doyle’s mug that I’ve had for at least 25 years. Had some great times with friends there. So sad to hear it’s closing, truly a local institution .. pic.twitter.com/nAaDmyByqw— Bill Sheerin (@AssignGuy) September 10, 2019
