ORLANDO (MyFoxBoston.com) - A new police at Disney World adding selfie sticks to the banned items list and forcing guests to leave them at bag checks outside the theme parks.
"We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family," Disney World's Kim Prunty announced. "Unfortunately selfie-sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast," Prunty continued.
The Orlando Sentinel reports the popular items will also be banned at Disney's water parks and the Downtown Disney shopping and dining area. The company has been learning toward the ban for several months. The sticks were prohibited at rides like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom a few weeks ago.
At Anaheim's California Adventure park, a roller coaster was stopped for an hour when a passenger pulled out one of the sticks as the ride was underway.
That spurred Disneyland Resort to follow suit and say no to the sticks on June 30th. Reports say Disney's parks in Paris and Hong Kong will join the ban in July.
