DA: 74-year-old woman killed in grandson's shootout in Mattapan

BOSTON — Two men have been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 74-year-old woman in Mattapan earlier this year, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.

One of those men, Anthony Davis, 34, is the grandson of the woman who was killed.

According to DA Rollins, Eleanor Maloney was outside of her home on Mattapan Street when an argument between Davis and Dan Henry turned into a shootout.

Maloney was killed in the gunfire.

Davis' femur was shattered and Henry was hit in the arm. Both men have been charged with first-degree murder and two other men have been charged in connection to Maloney's death.

"Their callous disregard for community and anyone else but themselves resulted in a beautiful 74-year-old woman being robbed of her life," Rollins said in a news conference Monday morning.

Rollins credited tips from the public for providing important information that investigators used to track down those who have been charged.

Chinoso Nwosu has been charged with accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence, while Kamal Watson has been charged with witness intimidation.

"This tragedy is particularly heinous for the Maloney family," Rollins said. "They've lost their grandmother and one of their relatives has been charged with her murder."

Rollins took a moment to read from Maloney's obituary, which had been published in the local paper. She pleaded with the community to stop gun violence by finding ways to avoid conflict and asked the public to come forward with tips.

"I can't imagine [Davis] would've ever wanted his grandmother to die, but as a result of his behavior...this woman was robbed of her life," Rollins said.

Both were charged due to the fact they were each had illegal guns and both fired shots.

Watson was charged with witness intimidation as an extension of the fact investigators say he lied about who was in the car with Nuassu when the shootout happened.
