Officials: Construction worker crushed to death by building

WOBURN, Mass. — Officials say a worker has died after he was crushed under a building at a construction site in Massachusetts.

Woburn Mayor Scott Galvin said Tuesday that the victim, a man in his 30s, was killed while working on a renovation project at the Woburn Public Library.

Sky25 was over the scene shortly after noon where a tent had been erected on the construction site surrounding the library. %

The building was designed by the architect who built Boston's Trinity Church in 1877. The library was built around the same time.

W.L French Excavating, a subcontractor on the project, says the victim was not an employee of the company. The company says he worked for the Schnabel Foundation Company, which is located in Southborough.

The District Attorney's Office said a preliminary investigation reveals the victim was working along the foundation when a piece of a rock broke free and hit him.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and state police are investigating.
