CLOSE CALL: MBTA bus runs red light, speeds through Boston intersection

BOSTON — A Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority bus is seen running a red light and speeding through a busy intersection in Boston Tuesday morning in dashcam video sent to Boston 25 News. The incident was recorded around 6:30 a.m. on Washington Street in Roslindale.

In a statement to Boston 25 News, the MBTA said management has identified the driver of the bus, and that employee would be interviewed by supervisors.

“The safe operation of any MBTA vehicle is of paramount importance, and supervisors in the MBTA Bus Division are launching an investigation into this matter.”

The operator is facing disciplinary action for violation of safety rules, the MBTA said.

People who work and live nearby said that intersection at Washington and Cornell Street in Roslindale is already pretty dangerous.

“Especially with all the crosswalks around, that’s pretty dangerous there’s a lot of kids and especially since school hasn’t started yet it’s kinda dangerous,” said Holly Flynne, who works nearby.

Jordan Levitch rides the T all the time, so he said he’d be concerned if he was on that bus.

“That’s ridiculous, it’s unfortunate that we still see situations like that where you can be put in danger even if you’re not doing anything yourself,” Levitch said.
