Canton Police issue fake ID warning

CANTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Over the last several weeks, more and more Canton teens have been found in possession of alcohol and local police want to know why.

Throughout their investigation, police have learned that a group of 18 or 19-year-olds bought fake IDs in order to purchase alcohol and distribute it, officials say. Police are trying to identify the teens as well as those who supplied the IDs and the locations that are selling alcohol to minors.

The alcohol is dropped off in various locations after it is purchased, sometimes at random homes. Several residents have called police to report seeing suspicious people on their property and one resident reported a possible breaking and entering.

The fake IDs look like they are professionally made with functional bar codes that work if scanned, according to officials.

"The resulting responses have led to the diversion of valuable police resources," Canton Police said in a statement posted on their Facebook page.

They also say that they will not tolerate underage drinking.

“The students at both of Canton's high schools have been warned. If you are underage and found in possession of alcohol, there will be consequences,” police said in the statement.
