SOMERVILLE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- After a roof collapse at a Somerville school parents learned what happened and what will happen to their children while repairs are made.
Just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday night, a custodian went to check on a motion detector alarm at the Brown School on Willow Avenue. The custodian found part of the roof had collapsed in the first floor girls restroom. Luckily no one was inside at the time.
Inspectors believe timbers that supported the flat part of the roof in the 150 year old school rotted and gave way under the weight of snow.
Parents attended a meeting Thursday night in Somerville to learn their children will be bussed to schools across the city until the construction is done in a month.
âI think it's going to work out well for the month. It is what it is and they're doing the best they can," one parent said.
As of Monday, the plan is that Brown students will be dropped off at Brown then bussed to schools across town. Kindergarten students will attend the Capuano School, first through fifth graders will go to the Edgerly School and the 6th graders will go to the East Somerville Community School.
