BPD investigating truck found in Everett in connection with fatal hit & run

EVERETT, Mass. — The investigation into a deadly hit and run near the new Encore Casino continues as Boston Police found a truck on Saturday that is very similar to one they have been looking for.

The truck found matches the description of the one called a "vehicle of interest" that was caught on surveillance video leaving the scene in Charlestown Thursday night.

That scene was at 99 Alford Street close to the Boston-Everett line where a man was hit and killed. It's not far from the new Encore Casino. The identities of the victim and the driver have not been released.

Police said they were looking for a very distinct Ford pickup truck that likely had front end damage.

On Saturday, Boston Police were investigating a similar-looking truck on Waverly Street in Everett for several hours. It was a ford F-150 just like the one in surveillance photos.

It also had plywood fencing on the truck bed and has damage to the front driver's side bumper. The truck has a logo: Anai's Landscaping and Snow Removal.

Boston 25 News called the number for that company, a man named Robert picked up the phone. He said he owns the company, but no longer owns the truck. He said that he sold it several months ago, but could not tell us who he sold it to.

At this point, Boston Police are not releasing any information about an arrest, but the community is devastated.

"We have the new casino down the street, and it happened right there and the person took off, and I think it’s just totally tragic," said Donna Monteforte of Everett.

Everett City Councilor Michael Mclaughlin said that although it's not clear the tragedy was connected to the casino in any way, it’s a chance to discuss traffic safety in the area.

"I'd like to see how we can work together to ensure that this doesn't happen again in the future in that area because that area has seen a huge increase in people in the last 30-plus days as the development has opened up," he said, adding that he hopes the driver is found and held accountable.

"Disappointed that someone would take off and not stop. Obviously accidents happen, but you have to stop and you have to be held accountable."
