Boston guidebook created to promote nightclub safety

BOSTON — Preventing problems at local bars and clubs is the aim of this new guidebook put out by Boston and bar owners.

The idea came together after two women were kidnapped from local bars, and tragically, one of them was killed.

23-year-old Jassy Correia was murdered after she was seen leaving a local nightclub back in February, in the Theater District.

A second woman was last seen leaving a Fanueil Hall bar in January. She was held against her will in a Charlestown apartment until Boston Police finally located her.

The hope is that this collaborative effort by police, the licensing board and the owners of bars and clubs, will help give a clear set of procedures to follow, to prevent those extreme instances and a host of minor issues.

Bar owners say guidelines like these could have helped prevent those two notorious kidnapping incidents.

“We’re very conscious of watching especially for young women who might be at risk and to encourage them not to leave alone," said Doug Bacon, president of Red Paint Hospitality Group.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and police say simple things like making sure all patrons show ID and that establishments have video surveillance will go a long way in preventing incidents and helping police if something does happen.
