Boston Public Library reopens after renovations

BOSTON — The lower level of the Boston Public Library's main location reopened with a face lift Saturday.

The changes were part of the second phase of the renovations at the Central Library in Copley Square.

Highlights of the renovations include removal of granite plinths that covered windows, a revamped lecture hall, a new innovation center and digital stacks to explore BPL's digitized collections.

The goal of the library was to be more open and to capture the manta "Free to All", according to the architects.

The Central Library Renovation project is funded by the City of Boston capital budget at $78 million.
