Boston Philharmonic Orchestra employee arrested on child pornography charges

An employee from the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and Youth Orchestra was arrested and charged with receipt and possession of child pornography on Tuesday, according to the Department of Justice.

The employee, 71-year-old Arlington native David St. George, was charged with one count of receipt of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography.

Documents say authorities received information about an online storage account suspected of containing child pornography, with the account's IP address going back to St. George's account.

An investigation revealed about 83 pictures and videos depicting sexual abuse of children, including a 1-year-old girl.

Prosecutors say officials found thousands of files of child pornography when they searched his home on Tuesday.

St. George is alleged to have been receiving and downloading child pornography from the darknet and trying to hide his identity.

Residents in St. George's neighborhood were left disgusted after the charges and said he lives in a neighborhood filled with children.

"There's maybe two houses in the vicinity that don't have kids," Jannelle Singleton said. "What you think opposed to who people are, you never really know."

Musicians in the area were also left shocked after the arrest.

"That guy shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the musician community," said Ryan Veith, an aspiring musician. “That’s not forgivable. I always believe in giving someone a second chance, but something like that -- that’s not okay."

Investigators in England first brought St. George's email address to the attention of the Department of Homeland Security, who then used Verizon records to zero in on St. James's Arlington home.

Receipt of child pornography provides for a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 20 years in prison. Meanwhile, possession of child pornography carries a sentence of no greater than 10 years in prison.
