Barnstead PD locate driver in hit and run that killed golden retriever

Police in Barnstead, New Hampshire, are looking for the driver of a car who was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run that killed a golden retriever Thursday.

BARNSTEAD, N.H. — Barnstead Police wrote on its Facebook page Friday morning that they have located the driver and vehicle involved in yesterday's hit and run that killed a golden retriever.

They added that additional information will become available.

The hit and run happened on Route 28 in the area of a construction site near former restaurant JJ's.

Witnesses on scene said they saw a red car with New Hampshire license plates traveling northbound before hitting the dog and pulling off on the side of the road to look at their car.

The alleged female driver and passenger allegedly left the scene without checking on the dog or calling police.

The owner of the dog was notified and arrived at the scene to pick up their dog.
