Athol Police Chief: No Yankees gear allowed

ATHOL, Mass. -- The first Red Sox vs Yankees series of the 2018 Major League Baseball season is upon us, and with it comes an important reminder - This is Red Sox Country.

The rivalry between the Bronx Bombers and the Sox goes back decades, but has faded in recent years. That's certainly expected to change after the Yankees added a slew of top-tier talent this off season.

With that in mind, the Athol Police Department posted a memo from the chief on Facebook reminding everyone where things stand.

"Effective immediately, no Yankees clothing may be worn inside the Athol Police Station," Chief Russel T. Kleber said in the memo. "This directive will be strictly enforced. Go Sox!!!"

Going into this three-game matchup, the Sox have been on an eight-game winning streak since losing the season opener. The Yankees are 5-5 and lost 2 of three games against the Baltimore Orioles in their weekend series.

Game one of the Red Sox vs Yankees series is Tuesday at 7:10 p.m., games two and three follow at the same time Wednesday and Thursday.
