BOSTON — Two cars of an Amtrak train separated while traveling at a high speed Tuesday morning, according to a spokesperson.
Amtrak confirmed to Boston 25 News reports indicating two cars on an Acela train separated while the train was traveling between Washington D.C. and Boston shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday.
There were about 52 people on board, the spokesperson said. All were transferred to the Northeast Regional Train and no one was injured, according to Amtrak.
Crews were sent to inspect "every Acela trainset," as part of an investigation into the cause of the incident.
Amtrak said it was taking any necessary precautions to prevent the separation from happening on any other train.
This is the third dangerous incident involving an Amtrak train the last few months.
