WINCHESTER, Mass. — There are new details about the troubled past of the man accused of killing a woman inside a local library.
Police say Jeffrey Yao stabbed a medical student more than 20 times inside the Winchester Public Library.
Yao was arrested in September for a home invasion attempt at his neighbor's house, according to court documents.
In December, a judge offered to let Yao pay $50 per month for one year as part of plea deal that would give him probation instead of doing community service. Yao's defense attorney said last week, the police department in Winchester was familiar with Yao.
Prosecutors also asked that he continue to keep getting help for his mental health issues as part of that probation.
