8-month-old girl among people rescued from Cannon Mtn. tram

ANDOVER, Mass. — A family is thankful to be back on the ground after a horrifying ordeal when the tram they were on at Cannon Mountain got stuck.

George Lewis, his wife Sabrina, and their 8-month-old daughter Remy were supposed to be on a 9-minute sightseeing tram ride, but it ended up being more than three hours on one of the coldest days of the year.

“Everyone knew she was there. It’s funny because people heard her crying and they’re like ‘we know, we feel the same way,’” Sabrina said.

After more than an hour suspended in the air, rescuers began to get people off the tram by lowering them through the bottom.

Sabrina went first, the George came holding Remy in his arms.

“All I said was ‘I want my baby to come down safe.’ I was just waiting, waiting, waiting, it felt like forever before I started to see it drop. In the back of my head I was like ‘please don’t break.’ Realistically I knew that wouldn’t happen, but just seeing them hit the ground when they got there, I was like ‘thank God.’” Sabrina said.

Once at the bottom Remy was checked out by medical crews and given a clean bill of health.

“Fingers and toes were warm, I guess I did a good job keeping her warm,” Sabrina said.
