50-year-old man dies from injuries sustained in two-car crash in Waltham

WALTHAM, Mass. — A 50-year-old Waltham man died after the car he was in collided with another car and crashed into a utility pole.

Waltham Police received a call for a two-car crash in the area of Pine and Elm streets at around 7 a.m.

At the scene, first responders found the man had become trapped inside the car after it struck the pole and had to be extricated.

Waltham Police told Boston 25 News the man had been a passenger inside an SUV that was hit by another SUV. The impact caused the first SUV to crash into the utility pole.

The passenger was removed from the car and rushed to Newton-Wellesley Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were also transported to the hospital. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

According to police, there are no signs that alcohol and drugs were involved, but that seatbelts were also not being used.
