.) Only about 10 percent of the world's population is left-handed, which has been the case for thousands of years. Men are more likely to be left-handed.
.) Lefties are also called "southpaws." That term is commonly thought to have originated in baseball to describe a left-handed pitcher, but there are various appearances of the word dating earlier than most baseball references.
.) Left-handed people have gotten a bad wrap for centuries and were considered inferior in some places. The word sinister comes from the Latin word "sinestra," which meant left but eventually came to mean evil or unlucky. Wedding rings are worn on the left hand because Greeks and Romans thought it would fend off the evil associated with the left hand.
.) Left-hand shakes are a sign of disrespect as people would use their left hand to wipe themselves after using the bathroom in the middle ages. Left hands were considered unclean.
.) Five out of the last seven U.S. Presidents write with their left-hand, including: Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
